The Benefit Bank Goes Live in Arkansas

Apr 23, 2008

The Benefit Bank of Arkansas is a joint effort between the State of Arkansas and the Arkansas Interfaith Conference (AIC). The AIC will train volunteers to assist potential recipients in the initial application process. The program will emphasize the Earned Income Tax Credit, food stamps, medical benefits (including children’s health insurance) and heating/cooling assistance. About 94 percent of currently unclaimed benefits in Arkansas are from federal programs.

TBB sites are being set up in seven counties at community centers, public libraries, churches and other easily accessible locations. Those counties are Hempstead, Izard, Mississippi, Montgomery, Phillips, Pulaski and Washington. After one year of operation, research of proven results, strategic planning, and Gov. Beebe's authorization, The Benefit Bank of Arkansas pilot program will expand to Arkansas' remaining 68 counties.
